Efu-wai・Kaikei-nendo

【English】
FY; Financial Year

The Financial Year  Kaikei-nendo  (会計年度) is the period fixed to allow for the clear reckoning and accounting of the spending and earnings of the public and private sector. In order to determine the financial situation and balance of payments of businesses and public institutions, it is necessary to calculate spending and earnings over a specified period. The FY is the twelve-month period stipulated for this purpose.

In Japan, according to the Public Finance Law and the Local Government Act, this is the period from April 1st until March 31st of the following year. In other words, 2014 FY (or Heisei 26FY by the Japanese calendar reckoning) ran from April 1st, 2014 until March 31st, 2015, and the period may differ from the Financial Year in other countries.
